And the considerations for legal departments extend far beyond these tools to the ways their outside counsel partners, business stakeholders and, often, end users or consumers are using AI.
In this conversation with Basha Rubin, Priori CEO and Co-Founder, Nabiha Syed, technology and First Amendment lawyer and CEO of nonprofit newsroom The Markup, decoded what legal department leaders need to know about AI regulation. She spoke about the factors that affect decision-making for bringing in new technologies, creating corporate policies and managing the risks that generative AI and large language models present. Syed also discussed the current regulatory environment surrounding AI and what it could mean for AI regulation in the United States and European Union, as well as her expectations for the short- and long-term regulation of AI.

Nabiha Syed is CEO at The Markup, an award-winning journalism non-profit that challenges technology to serve the public good.
